We now have summer flowers and seeds available at both our Cripple Creek and Florissant stores and Memorial Day weekend is a good time to begin planting. Where we live, you still have to be a bit careful of our temperatures at night, so just keep an eye out for those cold nights for the next few weeks.
Flowers look pretty, but they also great for attracting birds, bees, and butterflies as well as other insects. I like to have perennials as well as annuals in our yard and on our deck. The annuals add a lot of instant color and are good for filling in spaces where perennials won’t grow.
One thing you really need to keep in mind is our wildlife. Deer and rabbits love to eat flowers and I try to plant flowers that they don’t like to eat. I’ve had great luck with yarrow and Russian sage! Both of them come back year after year and I’ve yet to have anything eat them.
